Achilles Pain at Foot Foundation

The Achilles tendon is the largest tendon in the body, connecting the calf muscles to the heel bone. It is also one of the most frequently injured structures in the lower limb, due to the high loads placed on it during walking, running, and sports.

Achilles pain can result from several conditions, ranging from chronic overuse injuries to acute ruptures.

At Foot Foundation, we provide specialist diagnosis and treatment for all forms of Achilles pain, ensuring patients receive the correct management pathway.

Common Causes of Achilles Pain

  • Achilles Tendinopathy (Mid-portion) – degenerative tendon overload 2–6 cm above the heel

  • Insertional Achilles Tendinopathy – pain where the tendon attaches to the heel bone

  • Retrocalcaneal Bursitis – inflammation of the fluid sac behind the tendon

  • Achilles Rupture – sudden tearing of the tendon, often with a “popping” sensation

Our Approach

At Foot Foundation, we use a comprehensive biomechanical assessment, gait analysis, and advanced therapies such as shockwave, custom orthotics, and exercise prescription to achieve long-term recovery.

Treatment is available at all Foot Foundation clinics:
